Ancient water streams
Interior mural on Orangery ceiling at The Landmark Nicosia, Autograph Collection, Nicosia, Cyprus
Project: The Orangery ceiling was redesigned into four barrel vaults, spanning 206 square meters, and constructed using acoustic panels finished with sound-absorbing paint. The mural draws inspiration from Ottoman villa courtyards, where lush orange trees and hidden water streams formed the heart of social life. To preserve the ceiling’s acoustic function, the artwork was applied selectively, creating a broken-line effect reminiscent of aged brushstrokes. Egyptian Blue—historically used in frescoes—was chosen as the primary color. Due to the scale of the project, the flowing composition was first developed in detail and then transferred onto the ceiling using a grid system.
